Question 130 of 180

You are demonstrating a vascular examination to  group of medical students. The dorsalis pedis artery pulse is best palpated at which of the following sites:

Answer:

The dorsalis pedis pulse can be palpated on the dorsal surface of the foot between the tendon of the extensor hallucis longus and the tendon of the extensor digitorum longus to the second toe.

Dorsalis Pedis Artery

The dorsalis pedis artery begins as the anterior tibial artery crosses the ankle joint.

It passes anteriorly over the dorsal aspect of the tarsal bones and then passes inferiorly to join the deep plantar arch in the sole of the foot along with branches from the posterior tibial artery.

The dorsalis pedis pulse can be palpated on the dorsal surface of the foot between the tendon of the extensor hallucis longus and the tendon of the extensor digitorum longus to the second toe.
